# Impersonating a user

To utilize the Expense API, all requests need to be done on behalf of a user. The access token needs to be created based on a user.

All Expense API requests must be made on behalf of a specific user. To do this, generate a user access token by following the **User access token** section in the [Authentication](https://developer.findity.com/docs/accessing.md) guide.

You will need the `user_id` of the user you want to impersonate. To find this, use the [List users](https://developer.findity.com/reference/2809770e-a869-4973-a99b-96e4a08bce06.md) endpoint.

Once you have the user access token, include it in the `Authorization` header of your Expense API requests to act as that user.
