# Delete salary type

> Deactivates a salary type on the organization's payroll routing list so it can no longer be used to direct new expenses. The operation is a soft delete — the salary type is marked inactive rather than removed from the database. Cannot be used when the organization's salary codes are synced from an external system (returns 403 in that case).
